When was the last time you laughed so hard your cheeks hurt? If it’s been a while, you might want to head to Zagreb’s newest and perhaps most delightful cultural spot: HaHaHouse—the world’s first museum dedicated entirely to laughter. Yes, really.
Located right in the heart of the Croatian capital, on Gajeva Street, HaHaHouse isn’t a place you walk through in silence. Instead, it greets you with bold colors, quirky exhibits, and a joyful energy that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a living cartoon strip. From the moment you step inside, the message is clear: laughter is not only welcome—it’s the whole point.

The World’s First-Ever Museum Dedicated to Laughter
The concept was dreamt up by Andrea Golubić, a Zagreb-based creative with one simple goal: to bring a little more joy into people’s everyday lives. “HaHaHouse is my way of spreading lightness and connection through laughter,” she says. “It was born from the heart, as a remedy for the grayness we’re all too used to.”
And it shows. This isn’t just a place to smile—it’s a place to fully engage. HaHaHouse was designed with the help of artists, architects, designers, and humorists, both Croatian and international, who all had one brief: make people laugh, and make it meaningful.
Inside, you'll find a cast of characters ready to help you do just that. There’s Mr. H., the animated museum guide who delivers clever commentary on the absurd seriousness of modern life. He’s flanked by an ensemble of delightfully ridiculous supporting roles: a literal smart phone who’s a little too smart, a chicken that’s always two beats behind the joke, and a “joke explainer” who—ironically—never quite nails the punchline.
Zagreb’s Cure for the Everyday Blues
What sets HaHaHouse apart isn’t just its theme, but its purpose. The experience blends humor, interactivity, and storytelling to offer more than just entertainment—it invites reflection on how laughter connects us, softens the edges of daily life, and plays an essential role in our mental well-being.
The installations are immersive and hands-on, made to be touched, climbed, laughed at—and laughed with. You’re encouraged to participate, pose, play, and maybe rediscover a part of yourself that hasn’t come out to play in a while.
And the best part? This isn’t just for kids. HaHaHouse welcomes everyone from toddlers to grandparents. Whether you're dragging along a teen who “doesn’t laugh at anything” or bringing your best friend for a mood boost, the space somehow finds a way to reach everyone. As Andrea puts it, “Every new smile is a little win for us.”
So, if your week needs a little brightening—or your soul a bit of medicine without a prescription—HaHaHouse might just be your happy place.
Because sometimes, laughter really is the best therapy.
The museum is located on Gajeva Street in Zagreb and is open to visitors every day from 9 AM to 9 PM. For tickets, check out the HaHaHouse website.
