Croatia is like an old book; the more you read it, the more you get hooked on the story. With every page, you will uncover something new and exciting.
This charming European country is mainly known for its stunning Adriatic sea and islands, but trust us, it is more than that. If you drive a little bit further, half an hour drive to be exact, you will find yourself surrounded by the majestic nature of Gorski Kotar. This kingdom of mountains with rocky peaks jutting out from the vast expanse of forest, with lakes, rivers, and diverse wildlife, ticks out all the boxes when it comes to the green and stress-free weekend away. Gorski Kotar is packed with stunning and utterly charming chalets and cottages, but we have found a unique one!

A Real Robinson Crusoe Experience in Croatia
Imagine - a small wooden house tucked away in the forest, in a fairy-tale environment, with wildflowers, rivers, and lakes. You are in that house, snuggled up in a blanket next to the fireplace, slowly drinking tea, and all you hear is the crackling and popping of wood in the fire. There are no people around. There is no internet. Just you, the wooden house, and the forest. Ideal, right? Staying in the charming "Šume pjevaju" chalet is a one-of-a-kind experience and requires some "survival" skills – from lighting a fire in the fireplace or on the grill to carefully using water from the tank. There is no WI-FI, no TV, and sometimes no phone signal. But who needs that when you have beautiful nature all around you? The name of the chalet says it all – the forests are singing. Nature can play unforgettably beautiful melodies when you take a moment to listen. As the famous Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson said: "It is not so much for its beauty that the forest claims men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit."
Proper Rest for Body and Soul – Šume Pjevaju Chalet
This charming chalet can host up to 4 guests, and it has a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and small kitchen. We especially love the huge glass window in the bedroom, which frames the beautiful landscape outside. We could describe the decor of the chalet as eclectic. Most of the pieces are repurposed and recycled. The old dish is turned into a chandelier, the glass door into a window, and old wooden beams into a king-size bed. There are also a lot of vintage details that give charm to this place. The "Šume pjevaju" chalet also has a little terrace, perfect for soaking up the sun in the summer. As the chalet is deep in the forest, you can expect encounters with many wild animals such as roe deer, fox, deer, and squirrel. How amazing is that?
Chalet is nestled in the best location; it is only 25 minutes drive from the seaside, the stunning Adriatic sea, and a one-hour drive from the capital city of Zagreb. It is magical in any season, but especially during the winter months. A real-life winter wonderland, if you ask us. If you love skiing, there are also many ski slopes nearby. If you want to take a peek at this piece of heaven on Earth and go green for your weekend away in Croatia, book it via Booking or the "Šume pjevaju" website. You can read all the reviews from previous guests and get all the additional information there.
