Croatia continues to shine on the global tourism map, as ten of its hotels have been recognized with the brand-new Michelin Key designation, highlighting the country's growing reputation for exceptional hospitality and design. This accolade comes as part of the latest Michelin Guide selection, which includes a total of 44 Croatian hotels.
The Michelin Key is a recent innovation from the Michelin Guide, launched in celebration of its 125th anniversary. While Michelin Stars are globally renowned for recognizing outstanding culinary experiences, the Michelin Key honors hotels that deliver exceptional stays. According to Michelin, “All MICHELIN Guide hotels excel in design, architecture, service, and personality — the MICHELIN Key denotes the most outstanding experiences in our selection.”

10 Croatian Hotels Awarded the Prestigious Michelin Key
The selection process for the Michelin Key is rigorous. Inspectors assess hotels according to five universal criteria: excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the local community or setting. This ensures that recipients of the Michelin Key are not only luxurious but also deeply connected to their location and uniquely authentic.
Among the Croatian recipients, Villa Nai 3.3 stands out, earning three Michelin Keys. It has also been nominated for a special Michelin award in architecture and design, a testament to its remarkable aesthetic and guest experience. Other winners include Palace Elisabeth Hvar Hotel, which received two keys, and hotels such as Maslina Resort, Villa Korta Katarina & Winery, Hotel Villa Dubrovnik, Hotel Supetar, Esplanade Zagreb Hotel, San Canzian Hotel & Residences, Meneghetti Wine Hotel and Winery, and Grand Park Hotel Rovinj by Maistra Collection, each awarded one key.
These accolades not only celebrate luxury and comfort but also emphasize the distinctive character and authenticity of each hotel. As Kristjan Staničić, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, noted:
“This special recognition from the Michelin Guide represents a significant achievement for Croatian tourism. It is encouraging that hotels are recognized not only for luxury but also for unique character, authenticity, and contribution to the local community. This will inspire visitors to discover the diverse accommodation offerings across our country.”
A Boost for Croatian Tourism
The introduction of Michelin Key awards is seen as a major step in strengthening Croatia's position as a premium travel destination. By highlighting hotels that combine design excellence with exceptional service and local engagement, the Michelin Guide provides global travelers with assurance that Croatia offers experiences beyond the ordinary.
In addition to the Michelin Key, the Guide also introduced four special awards that recognize achievements in architecture, wellness, local engagement, and new openings. Such distinctions showcase the versatility and high standards of Croatian hospitality, confirming the country’s ability to compete on a global stage.
